The
biggest Duran event since the last tour
has to have been the gigs that the
Neurotic Outsiders played throughout
September. On the following pages Medazzaland
reviews 4
of the shows......

London
Astoria 2, 26/9/96
Well,
it wasn't the sort of venue I envisaged
myself attending and despite all the
pushing, shoving and "moshing"
the NOs were absolutely brilliant!!!
John Taylor proved himself live (again) -
both musically and vocally. They played
all my favourite songs : Angelina and
Union and Johns outstanding Feelings Are
Good, not to mention that I was in heaven
when they opened with Duran's classic
Planet Earth. My prayers were answered
with Simons guest appearence which left
the audience mouths wide open.
I hope that with the complete success of
the gig and tour that Duran will all get
together and realise we are all desperate
for a new album and tour.

The Neurotic
Outsiders experience is always
entertaining, but it was particularly
amusing at Webster Hall in New York City.
Where else can you expect to see Duran
fans in all their fluffy glory, Guns and
Roses fans dressed to hurt and Sex
Pistols fans with a glazed look on their
faces, presumably from being hit on the
head one too many times in one too many
mosh pits? Then mixed in with the regular
NO crowd were celebrities left over from
the MTV Video Music Awards held in NYC
the night before and representatives of
the CMJ New Music Seminar. The air was
filled with excitement, pretension and
well....sweat. |

Enter the main act - the Neurotic
Outsiders served up their usual show
featuring songs from their newly released
album and a smattering of cover tunes.
Steve Jones was his theatrical self as he
appeared in what could be best described
as a leather nightmare. He is the perfect
compliment to John Taylor.
While John plays it coy, Steve eggs on
the Duran fans by making lot of
gratuitous remarks about him. This causes
all of those JT followers to lose their
minds and the crowd noise doubles
as John flashes that trademark smile. Too
often lost in the scene are Matt Sorum
and Duff McKagen.
Matt and Duff do their jobs with a
special spunk that has been winning them
fans from coast to coast , leaving
everone to wonder 'Gun's & What' |

The after show scene was even more
entertaining than the actual concert. The backstage area
(it was actually just a blocked off section on the second
floor that looked down on the concert area) was occupied
by a number of celebs who were taking advantage of the
free bar. American Gen-X icon, Ben Stiller, was chatting
up Stephen Dorff while Steve Jones was flirting with
everything in a short dress.Matt was making the rounds
with a beer in his hand, stopping to talk to ex-Van Halen
singer, David Lee Roth. Duff stayed huddled in a
small group of friends. |
