The Leicester Fiesta
This page is the place to be for information on Worldnet 99.
The Opposition
Motley Crewe have been placed in a testing group for this years competition
and will probably have to make do with a mid-group finish. The opposition list
in full is as follows:
Watford
Spurs
Reading Derby
On recent form, Reading look a good bet for qualification along with Derby
who, although beaten by a Motley side earlier in the season, I suspect
will field a stronger team than they had for that game and probably win the
group. Watford and Spurs will also be no pushovers so lets just hope that we can
get a point!
The Squad
The Worldnet playing squad is limited to just 22 players so places are
obviously in demand. Joining us once again this year will be one of the
Norwegian fans, Jon Olav Abeland who debuted for the Motley Crewe at last years
tournament. He is expected to be joined by another Scandinavian in Morten
Larsen. The rest of the current squad is made up of Motley regulars...

A Bit more Information
"As you all know by now, Worldnet'99 - The Leicester Fiesta - is taking
part
here in Leicester on 17th and 18th of July, so I thought I'd drop you a line
and let you know a little more info.
Victoria Park is where the action takes place which - for all those who are
a little familiar with Leicester - is on the A6 running out of town, about
10 minutes walk from the city centre. There's an on-site cafe and changing
rooms and assorted pubs and food joints are literally just across the road.
There is a pay and display car park, although there's plenty of street
parking to be had locally. One nice thing is that all the pitches are
together.
There'll be something of a p*ss-up on the Saturday night, and we're hoping
to hold this in the city centre so all those that wanna hit the clubs and
disco's and what have you haven't got too far to stagger! We're also hoping
for a heap of other stuff to keep you entertained during the weekend, but
we're still a way from confirming any of it.
We'll be putting together a programme for the tourny, and the IFA have
kindly agreed that any profits we make from the advertising can go to the
Bradley Normal appeal. Similaly, we'll be producing T-Shirts and stuff with
the same aim. We'll also be producing a souvenier CD-ROM (similar to that
of the M'Duck Cup). In order to avoid being left with heaps of stuff
afterwards, these'll only be available in limited quantities (apart from the
CD-ROM), so pre-order to avoid disappointment!!
With regards accomodation, as John said, there is no camping available on
site this year, we're afraid. We've already started negotiating with the
universities of Leicester to use the halls of residance (At this stage, it
looks like it'll cost you about 16.50 a night), and we're talking to a range
of local hotels for preferential rates. We'll also make available a list of
any campsites we can find, although these are likely to be some distance
away. Our advice for all of these is to BOOK EARLY!!!!!"
International Match(es)
This is the plan for Internationals. Last year England won the Wilf Mannion
International trophy by beating Scotland 5-1 in a game of 2 x 30 min halves.
This year (All) Ireland and Wales will enter the fray. To accomodate them
and promote the growth of International Internet Footie, IFA have changed
the competition format for the Wilf Mannion International Trophy.
The games will be held immediately after the group matches are completed -
probably starting sometime between 5 & 6pm.
There will be a draw. 2 semi-finals will be played at the same time. The
winners will contest the final after a 10 minute break.
Each match will be 30 minutes long. There will be no half times and no
turning around. If the scores are even after 30 minutes, there will be
penalties in the semis. If they are even in the final, 10 mins golden goal,
followed by penalties if required.
Hopefully this format will prevent any one player playing too much football
on the saturday evening and will allow all players to retire to the pub by
6.30ish.
Teams are responsible for co-ordinating/ providing their own kits. Refs will
be supplied by IFA. All team Managers should report to the control centre as
soon as their club team has finished.
In the unlikely event that a national team is unable to raise enough players
on the day, the competition will be on a 3 team group basis. IE: 2 x 30 min
games.
Standard IFA Wnet group rules will apply to decide a winner in the event of
teams having the same number of points.
On behalf of all International team Managers and the IFA Exec, we hope that
you enjoy the games and cheer on your club-mates and compatriots. Fully
segregated terracing will be provided, along with Riot Police and yapping
Alsations to make all you International fans feel at home.
